The UFC contest between Claudia Gadelha and Angela Hill scheduled for May 16 in Jacksonville is a dream match-up. It will be only women’s fight on the main card at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville on Saturday night.
The MMA action will take place inside an empty VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Expect and exciting fight between two talented and tough UFC stars. This fight could easily headline any UFC card.
Betting Line Odds
Claudia Gadelha: -190
Angela Hill: +150
Claudia Gadelha
Claudia Gadelha is ranked #6 in the division, and has a 17-4 record in mixed martial arts. The Brazilian is 6-4 in UFC, with nine of those fights going the distance. The three-time BJJ world champion defeated Randa Markos in her last fight in July, and will need a win here to get another shot at the title. Gadelha came up short to now former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the first-ever UFC women’s strawweight title fight.
Gadelha could never fight as often as Hill because Claudia has to cut too much weight.
Angela Hill
Unbelievable as it may seem, Angela Hill is unranked in the UFC. The 35 year old World Kickboxing Association Champion has a 12-7 career record in MMA. She is the most active fighter on the UFC’s roster. This will be Angie OverKill Hill’s 7th fight in 14 months. An incredible statistic which belies the fact that OverKill Hill will be the smaller athlete in the cage on Saturday night.
The former kickboxing champ has yet to submit an opponent in 14 fights, and tends to like to work on her feet.
Dream Matchup
Just because Claudia Gadelha is a former Jiu-Jitsu Champion and Hill is a former Kickboxing Champion doesn’t necessarily mean Claudia will want to take the fight to the ground. Look for the Brazilian to utilize her striking skills on her feet and try to take Hill out early.
I look for this to be a back and forth war. Not enough good things can be said about each of these women with regard to their talent and their toughness.
Prediction
I am a big fan of both fighters. They always come to fight and bring the action with them. I think Claudia Gadelha is bigger and stronger than Angela Hill. And I’m afraid in the UFC Strawweight division, that size advantage makes for a big difference.
I don’t expect Angela Hill to quit or look for a way out. This is a big match=up and there will be lots of eyes on these two UFC veterans. Both fighters will battle until the end and ultimately the judges are going to have to give the nod to one of them in what will be a close contest.
I expect Claudia is going to inflict some damage and she will take the edge on the judges score card.
Claudia Gadelha by split decision.
