Cortney Casey vs. Mara Romero Borella
A pair of female flyweights both need a win at UFC on ESPN on Saturday, May 16. UFC flyweights Cortney Casey and Mara Romero Borella will fight in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday night.
Cortney Casey
Casey is 8-7 in her MMA career, and she tends to bring the action. A puncher with 4.8 significant strikes per minute in the octagon, she also absorbs 4.73. “Cast Iron” is 4-6 in UFC, and has lost three of her last four fights, with all the results by decision.
Mara Romero Borella
Borella is 12-7 as a professional, but just 2-3 in a UFC ring since signing with the promotion in October of 2017. Mara Borella lost her last fight to Montana De La Rosa , also a back and forth, action-packed affair, in February. At 34 years old, she needs a win if she’s ever going to find her way into the UFC Top 15 rankings.
Borella does appear to be the sharper side, as she’s getting just 36% of the tickets yet 54% of the cash behind her.
Betting line odds
Cortney Casey: -160, 46% handle, 64% bets
Mara Romero Borella: +130, 54% handle, 36% bets
The bookmakers also believe this fight lasts all 15 minutes, as it’s -360 to be decided by the judges, and +250 for a stoppage.
Prediction
Borella did come up short in her last effort against a resilient Montana de la Rosa back in February. Although she lost the fight, she did have some opportunities in the fight. She’s tough, but she has dropped 3 of her last 4 fights in the UFC.
Casey has a victory over Angela Hill who fights in the co-main on the card against Claudia Gadelha. Casey has fought Gadelha too, but lost via unanimous decision.
Both women are tough, and both need the victory. I think that Casey has fought the tougher competition and shows that she wants it more. I think Saturday night will be no different.
Cortney Casey defeats Mara Romero Borella via unanimous decision.
