Russian President Vladimir Putin Calls UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov About Sick Father

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov received multiple calls from Russian President Vladimir Putin this week, as his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, continues to receive treatment in a Moscow hospital.

According to Nurmagomedov’s longtime manager, Ali Abdelaziz, Khabib’s father was placed in a medically induced coma by doctors this week as they continue to treat his heart condition after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Abdelaziz added that Russian President Vladimir Putin has personally reached out to Khabib to offer his assistance and assure the undefeated UFC Lightweight Champion that his father is receiving the best possible medical attention.

Earlier this week, Nurmagomedov addressed his father’s health struggles for the first time publicly in a lengthy video posted to his Instagram page.

“This virus has very seriously affected his heart, since he had a heart operation a year ago,” Nurmagomedov said.

“Many people I know have died, the parents of people close to me. This virus has affected everyone. This virus doesn’t ask what your surname or name is, this virus doesn’t ask where you work, if you are rich or poor. Everyone has gotten ill. We can only overcome this together.”

Nurmagomedov returned home prior to a previously scheduled fight against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. But after travel restrictions were put into place to slow down the spread of the disease, he was unable to return to the United States for the event.
