Conor McGregor pledges $1,000,000 to first responders
MMA superstar Connor McGregor took to Instagram on Wednesday via his Whiskey Company, Proper 12. The former UFC double champion pledged that the company would be donating five dollars for every case of whiskey it sells.
McGregor says the company will donate the money to first responders to the COVID=19 coronavirus pandemic.
UFC Star announces $1,000,000 donation on Instagram
McGregor added that he is capping the donation at $1,000,000. This is an admirable act of generosity on the part of the wealthy fighter McGregor. It’s not yet clear how he will distribute the funds or to which organization he will donate them.
This lack of details is normal for such an advertisement to sell a product.
Quickly the math shows us that McGregor and Proper 12 will have to sell 200,000 cases of whiskey in order to reach the $1,000,000 self-imposed cap.
Crunching the numbers
When it comes to whiskey, the term “case” is loosely defined. As it turns out, not unlikely the rangy southpaw from Ireland, the word is quite flexible. Does it mean 4 bottles or does it mean 12 bottles of whiskey?
One has to imagine that the company will lean towards a number at the highest extreme of the scale.
Can Conor McGregor donate the full $1,000,000 pledge
That means that in order to donate the full $1,000,000 to first responders of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Proper 12 Whiskey will have to sell almost 2 and a half million bottles of whiskey, or 2,400,000 bottles of whiskey, in order to donate the full $1,000,000 pledged to the first responders.
To quickly round out the math for a level picture of the amount of product involved, if each bottle is .75 liters, we are talking about 1.8 million liters of whiskey.
Seems like a lot of whiskey. Is it. A. Lot. Of. Whiskey.
Whiskey vs COVID-19
Check out this chart showing the quantities sold by all brands of American Whiskeys Beverage Information and Insights Group published this information.
Based on the figures in this chart, Connor McGregor’s Proper 12 Whisky would have to sell at least as many cases of whiskey as Bird Dog Whiskey sold in 2017. Seems easily achievable given McGregor’s proven marketability.
If you follow the proud Irishman on Twitter, you know that he has been vocal about issues surrounding the 2020 COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. It is good to see the UFC fighting star put his money where his mouth is.
Hopefully, he will say vocal and visible. I would like him to show us what he achieves with this $1,000,000 donation to the first responders of the COVID-19 pandemic.
