Eddie Bravo Masters the Twister
Eddie Bravo – the Twister
When you hear your buddies mention the Twister, can you name the first person who comes to your mind. Ingrained in mine is the Twister master, Eddie Bravo. Call me biased because I just finished watching a DVD, Mastering the Twister, given to me by CB.
Mastering the Twister
The instructional, Mastering the Twister, is Bravo at his best. Pure Jiu-Jitsu. All Jiu-Jitsu. Eddie’s mastery unfolds with every chapter, deeper and deeper, into the crystal clear waters. Eddie’s instruction is precise and much more efficient than you might expect from a stand-up comedian, conspiracy theorist.
2003 ADCC World Championships
Say what you will about Bravo, I would have loved to see his Jiu Jitsu matches leading up to his win in the quarterfinals of the 2003 ADCC World Championships in Abu Dhabi over Royler Gracie. While watching the instructional I have only been able to practice the techniques on Deep Roy due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately Deep Roy And required some maintenance along the way and still requires more.
65kg Division
The reason I would have liked to have seen Eddie Bravo compete at Abu Dhabi is precisely because I would like to see the concepts he demonstrates in Mastering the Twister. Since I have only been able to practice with Deep Roy since the pandemic began, I would like to get a sense of how they would work against different sized opponents.
Bravo admits in Mastering the Twister, that some of the techniques he is demonstrating will not work against bigger and stronger opponents. I get that sense just by watching the video, which is why would have liked to have seen them in action by the master himself.
Overall, I think Mastering the Twister is an exceptional instructional video for anyone who trains Jiu Jitsu. But I will add that this video is not for beginners.
New Frontier – New Moves
You will notice that I have not yet mentioned anything about all of the names for the positions that Eddie and his homies have come up with. Again, say what you will, but the naming the positions really adds a new dimension to Jiu Jitsu. Eddie has an exceptional mind for these kinds of things.
